Weight Management

Weight Loss Injections — Wegovy & Mounjaro

For many patients, losing weight is one of the most effective ways to ease knee pain, slow arthritis and reduce the risks of surgery. Where lifestyle changes alone have not been enough, weight-loss injections such as Wegovy (semaglutide) and Mounjaro (tirzepatide) are available at Circle Cheshire Clinic. Please note: I do not prescribe these medications myself — they are prescribed by a GP at the clinic as part of your package, following a full assessment of your suitability.

Wegovy (semaglutide) & Mounjaro (tirzepatide)

What are weight-loss injections?

Weight-loss injections are injectable prescription medications containing a GLP-1 receptor agonist (semaglutide, in Wegovy) or a dual GIP/GLP-1 agonist (tirzepatide, in Mounjaro). They are licensed for weight management in adults who are living with obesity, or who are overweight with weight-related health problems. They are used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity to help you lose weight and keep it off.

How they work

  • These medications contain a GLP-1 receptor agonist (semaglutide in Wegovy, tirzepatide in Mounjaro) that mimics a naturally occurring hormone which signals fullness to your brain.
  • They slow the emptying of your stomach so you feel satisfied with smaller portions and for longer after eating.
  • They act on appetite centres in the brain to reduce hunger and cravings, making it easier to maintain a calorie deficit.
  • They are supported by large clinical trial programmes — including the STEP and SURMOUNT trials — which demonstrated meaningful, sustained weight loss over more than a year when used alongside diet and lifestyle changes.

Your Knees

Why weight loss matters for your knees

Weight loss is one of the few factors you can directly control that has a powerful effect on your knee pain, your arthritis and the safety of any surgery you may need.

  • Losing weight reduces the load through your knee with every step, often easing pain within weeks.
  • Weight loss slows the progression of arthritis and can delay or even avoid the need for surgery.
  • After surgery, a healthier weight means less stress on the implant or repair, lower reoperation rates and a longer-lasting result.
  • A lower body mass index (BMI) reduces the risk of complications from both general and regional anaesthetic and improves surgical recovery.

Treatment at Circle Cheshire Clinic

The package & cost

At Circle Cheshire Clinic, the initial weight-loss injection package typically costs £499. This is a complete package — it is not just the medication. I do not prescribe the weight-loss medication myself; it is prescribed by a GP at the clinic as part of your package, following a full assessment of your suitability.

After the initial package, the cost of your ongoing medication is the commercial cost of the medication. Your follow-up GP reviews and ongoing support continue as part of your treatment plan.

Questions

Common questions

Who prescribes the weight-loss medication?

I do not prescribe the weight-loss medication myself. It is prescribed by a GP at Circle Cheshire Clinic as part of your package, following a full assessment of your suitability.

Is Wegovy or Mounjaro safe?

These medications have been studied extensively and are widely prescribed. Like all medications they can have side effects — the most common are nausea, diarrhoea, constipation and reduced appetite, which often settle as your body adjusts. The GP will discuss the risks and benefits with you in full before starting treatment.

Do I still need to diet and exercise?

Yes. The medication works alongside — not instead of — a reduced-calorie diet and increased activity. That is why your package includes dietitian and physiotherapy support. The medication makes it easier to stick to your plan; the lasting weight loss comes from the lifestyle changes you maintain.

How long will I need treatment for?

Treatment is reviewed regularly by the GP. Many patients continue for several months as they build sustainable habits. Stopping is planned with you to minimise weight regain, and ongoing support is provided.

Can anyone have weight-loss injections?

These medications are not suitable for everyone — for example patients with certain personal or family medical histories. The assessment in your initial GP appointment is there to make sure the treatment is right and safe for you before it begins.

What happens after the initial package?

After the initial package, the cost of your ongoing medication is the commercial cost of the medication. Your follow-up GP reviews and ongoing support continue as part of your treatment plan.
