Your visit
What to expect when you see me.
Every patient deserves time, clarity and a clear plan. Here is what happens from the moment you walk in to the day you leave with a diagnosis and next steps.
Your appointment
Your first consultation will last 30 minutes. Please arrive 10 minutes early to complete any remaining paperwork. Bring any recent X-rays, MRI scans or referral letters with you — these are invaluable. Please wear shorts if you can.
The examination
I will take a detailed history of your knee symptoms, how they started and what affects them. I will then examine your knee, looking at alignment, stability, range of movement and areas of tenderness. I will also assess your walking pattern and the strength of the muscles around your knee.
Investigations
If you do not already have imaging, I may arrange X-rays or an MRI scan. These are often done on the same day or shortly afterwards. For some conditions, I may also request blood tests or specialised scans.
Your diagnosis and plan
Once I have all the information, I will explain your diagnosis clearly and discuss all suitable treatment options personalised for your care. This may include physiotherapy, injections, keyhole surgery or other procedures. I will explain the risks and benefits of each so you can make an informed decision. There is never any pressure to proceed with surgery. Injections can be undertaken in the clinic wherever I see you. If seen in the Cheshire Clinic your surgery will most likely be at the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle, and if seen in Fairfield Hospital it will be in Fairfield. If you choose to proceed with any treatment you will receive a personalised quote within a few days of your clinic appointment.
Preoperative Assessment
Once listed - you will need to be seen in the Preoperative Assessment Clinic where a specialist nurse and possibly the anaesthetist will review you and ensure your bloods and heart tracing (if required) are fine. Once you have been given the OK for surgery from them I will be informed of the outcome and if all fine we can proceed with surgery. You will be informed of the confirmed date for surgery and what time to arrive at the hospital.
Follow-up and next steps
If treatment is recommended, my team will arrange the next steps — whether that is booking physiotherapy, scheduling an injection or arranging a date for surgery. You will receive written information about your condition and proposed treatment. Please contact the clinic or hospital directly for any follow-up questions.
Post Operative Communication
After surgery I am always happy for you to contact me for any advice or if you have any concerns regarding your knee and I will always get back to you the same day.
After surgery if you or anyone have concerns about your wound please contact my secretary or myself and do not start any antibiotics unless advised by myself.
